Creating Item Variations
You can create multiple variations of an item automatically and have AccountEdge track the inventory of each variation.
A new master item must first be created. A master item can be marked I Buy, I Sell, I Inventory, however cannot be used on sales and purchases. The buying and selling details of the master items will be copied from the master item when a variation is created.
Note: any items created prior to AE 2014 with history cannot be used as a master item.
To create a variation of an item you must first create an item property. Each property will contain a property name and details. For example; the item is Coffee. You have created a property named Blend and Flavor, each having a list of details to choose from. Each property and details chosen for each item creates a list of variations for that item.
On the master item you can select up to 3 properties. Listed under each property will be the list of variations created. Select each that will be applicable to that master item. Once you have selected to create the variations, a message will appears displaying the amount of variations created.
To create a master item

Go to the Inventory command center and click Item List. The Items List window appears.

Click New. The Item Information window appears.

In the Item Number field, type a unique identifier and press Tab.

In the Name field, type the name of the new item.

Specify whether you buy, sell, and inventory this item by selecting the relevant options.
As you select the options, fields appear next to them. These fields change according to the combination of selections you make.

Enter the appropriate accounts in the fields that appeared during the previous step. With each selection you make, information tabs for the item become available, Buying Details, Selling Details, etc.

Continue by selecting the detail information for this item until you reach the Variations tab.
To create an item property

From the Item Information window, click the Variations view.

Click Add Properties.

Click New. The Item Property List window appears.

Enter the name you want to assign to the property in the Property Name field then press tab.

Click New. The Item Property Detail window appears.

Enter the property ID and Name you want to use to generate the variations Item Number and Name.

Click OK.
After you have created a master item and item properties, you can now create variations of a master item.
To create item variations

From the Item Information window - Variations view, of the master item, click the Select.. menu to select the property. Only 1 property can be selected for each list. Once you have selected a property a list of details will appear. Any or all details can be selected. You can select up to 3 properties for each master item.

Click Create Variations. A message will appear displaying the number of variations created.

Click OK.
