Review your payroll categories - Wages

Use this window to review your payroll categories. The Select Category Type list includes Wages, Accruals, Deductions, Expenses or Taxes. When you select Wages:

MYOB AccountEdge provides you with a number of common wage categories that you can assign to your employees later in the setup process. Review the list to see whether all the types of wages your company uses are included. It's also a good idea to review the setup information for all the wages to be sure it matches the way you do business.

Wages are determined on an hourly, salary or other basis. Some examples of wages are salary, bonus, commission, vacation pay, sick pay and overtime.

Some other forms of payment, such as some types of employee benefits, are also considered wages for tax purposes, and are referred to as non-cash wages. Non-cash wages are forms of payment not actually distributed as money by an employer, but included in an employee's gross pay total so the wages are subject to deductions and withholdings. Company car benefits, excess life insurance and incentive travel costs are all examples of non-cash wages.
