Toolbar

Add New Data Field/Column button

Use this button to open the Select from List [multiple selection] window, where you can choose the data fields you want to use in the form. Enter a field name in the Select only: field to highlight a single field for selection.

Add New Text Field button

Use this button to create a new text field on the form. Text fields contain only text that you type into the field.

To create a new text field, select the Add New Text Field button, then click anywhere on the layout part of the window. A new field, with the title "Text Field,' will appear in the window.

To enter or change the text you want to display in the text field, double-click the field. When the Field Properties window - Text Field appears, you can enter the label you want to give to this new field in the Text box. The text that you enter will appear on the printed form inside the boundaries of the text field.

To delete a text field, select it and choose Clear or Cut from the Edit menu. (As an alternative, you can press DELETE or BACKSPACE on your keyboard.)

Insert Graphics/Picture button

Use the Insert Graphics/Picture button to place a graphic file image on the form. A typical use of this button is to insert a company logo on a form.

To create a new picture field, first click the Insert Graphics/Picture button. Place the picture on your form layout by clicking anywhere on the layout part of the window. A new field will appear in the window, containing an icon of a picture frame.

To place or change a picture in the picture field, double-click the field. The Field Information window - Picture will appear, allowing you to paste the picture into the field. You can reposition the picture by dragging it to the right location on the form or by using the options on the Field Information window.

To delete a picture field, select it and choose Clear or Cut from the Edit menu. (As an alternative, you can press Delete on your keyboard.)

Insert Rectangle button

Use the Insert Rectangle button to create four-sided shapes on your forms.

To create a new rectangle, click the Insert Rectangle button, then click and hold the mouse button to drag the rectangle cursor (a large +) across the layout part of the window. When the rectangle is the right size, release the mouse button.

To change the size, location or thickness of a rectangle's border, double-click the rectangle. When the Field Information window - Rectangle appears, make any necessary changes in the fields provided.

Insert Line button

Use the Insert Line button to draw horizontal and vertical lines on your forms.

To create a new line, click the Insert Line button, then drag a line across the form layout until the line is the length you want. (To drag a line, click and hold the mouse button while the cursor is positioned in the layout window, then move the mouse so the line grows to the desired length. When the line is complete, release the mouse button.)

To change the thickness or position of a line, double-click the line. When the Field Information window - Line appears, you can change the thickness, orientation or position of the line.

Undo button

Use this button to undo your last action in the Customize window. Clicking Undo twice will redo the last action.

Send to Back button

Use the Send to Back button to position a field or design element behind another element on the form.

Bring to Front button

Use the Bring to Front button to position a field or design element in front of another element on the form.

Change Fonts button

Click the Change Fonts button to display the Text Format window, where you can change the text fonts that will display and be printed in the text and data fields you select.

Form Properties button

Click this button to display the Forms Information window, where you can modify the margins, size and layout of your form. Use the Options tab in this window to display or remove the layout grid, and to add or remove a background graphic.

Form Preview button

Click this button to open the Print Preview window, where you can view how the form will look on paper before you actually print it.

Layout menu (checks only)

Use the selections in the check form Layout menu to choose the type of check layout and stub that you want to customize. Choose from Check (no stub), Regular stub, Payable stub, Refund stub or Paycheck stub.

Layout area

Use this part of the window to add, change and move fields and graphic elements in the form.

Data fields

Basic fields are part of the basic layout for every form; their names appear within the layout area of the Customize window for each form, and the form layout includes text field labels for them. If you have already customized a form layout, the layout area may also display custom fields that you have added. These fields do not have corresponding text field labels unless you have created them.

You can change the location of any field in the layout area by dragging it to a new location. (To drag a field, click and hold the mouse button while the cursor is positioned on the field you want, then move the mouse so the field moves to the position where you want it. When the field is in the correct position, release the mouse button.)

To change the size of a data field or column, place the mouse cursor on one of the "handles" on the field's corners or sides and drag the side or corner until it is the size you need.

To display information about a field, double-click the field to display the Field Information window. You can use this window to view and change information about the field.

Text fields

A text field is used as a label on the form. You can add text fields by clicking the text button in the toolbar at the top of the window.

To change the size of a text field, place the mouse cursor on one of the "handles" on the field's corners or sides and drag the side or corner until the field is the size you need.

To display information about a text field, double-click the field; the Field Information window will appear, allowing you to view and change information about the field.

Ruler

The ruler allows you to determine the position of the fields on the form.

Layout grid

If you have checked "Show Grid" in the Forms Information window, the layout area will display a grid that you can use to position fields and graphic elements on your form. If you have marked "Snap to Grid," the top and left edges of elements that you add or reposition will be automatically placed against the closest vertical and horizontal grid lines.

Command buttons

Save Form

Click the Save Form button to save the changes you've made to a customized form.

If you click this button after you've made changes to a form template, the Save As window will appear. In the Save As window, enter a name and description for the customized form and click OK to save the form.

Save Form As

Click the Save Form As button to save the changes you've made to a form template. When you click this button, the Save As window will appear, allowing you to enter a name and a description for the customized form. After you make your entries, click OK to save the form.

Cancel

Click this button to close the window without saving any changes you have made.

OK

Use the OK button when you to simply want to review a form layout. Clicking OK returns you to the previous window without saving any changes you have made.
