When to transfer inventory instead of auto-building items
For many kinds of finished items, MYOB AccountEdge's auto-build feature is faster and easier than transferring the component items to a finished item using the Transfer Inventory window. Auto-building isn't very flexible, though -- it requires that every finished item be the same every time it's built. (Auto-building items)
If the finished item requires any sort of customizing, transferring inventory is a better option. For example, if you sell furniture and allow customers to choose the fabric that will be used in side chairs, it will be difficult to auto-build the chairs unless you use a single item number for all the types of fabric that customers are allowed to select. The Transfer Inventory window allows you to use whatever items are required to build the item; individual item numbers and quantities can be changed from one time to the next, if necessary.
