Plan the best location for your company file
AccountEdge:
To help decide which workstation will be used to store your company file, answer some questions about how your company plans to use AccountEdge:
- Which workstation on your network is the most powerful? Like most computer applications, AccountEdge can be used most efficiently on workstations that have the most free hard disk space and random access memory (RAM). You may want to consider placing the upgraded company file on your company's most powerful computer.
- Which workstation will use AccountEdge the most? If one employee at your company will use AccountEdge more than anyone else, consider placing the upgraded company file on that employee's workstation. This will help speed that employee's accounting tasks.
- What are the job functions of each person who will use AccountEdge? For example, a clerk who enters and changes information in AccountEdge throughout the day will require more computer "horsepower" than a manager who views the company's financial data only occasionally. Placing the company file on the clerk's workstation and ensuring that workstation is more powerful than the manager's will increase the efficiency of your company's AccountEdge activities.
AccountEdge Network Edition:
When several users work with a company file simultaneously, it must be stored on a host computer to which each user has access. Consider these tips for choosing a suitable host:
- Host the company file on the most powerful computer on the network. Users on workstations will enjoy better performance if the company file is stored on the fastest computer with the most memory.
- Host the company file on a network server. If your company uses a server running special software such as xServe, consider hosting the company file on the server. Servers are fast and specially designed to handle network traffic.
- Host the company file on the key employee's computer. If one employee at your company will use AccountEdge more than anyone else, consider placing the upgraded company file on that employee's workstation. This will help speed that employee's accounting tasks.
- Host the company file on a backup computer. If you store all your important files on a central host that is backed up frequently, it's a good idea to also store your company file on that host. By doing so, you'll ensure that the company file will be backed up along with all your other vital data.
