Situation
You may receive this message when you attempt to open an MYOB FirstEdge company file. While it's unlikely there are actually 10 company files open in your MYOB FirstEdge folder, this message indicates there are 10 lock files in the folder, and only 10 lock files can be created in one folder.
MYOB FirstEdge tracks transactions using the user ID that's entered in the Sign-on window. Each time a user opens an MYOB FirstEdge company file, a lock file-a file holding the user's ID-is created in the folder where the company file is located. The lock file is deleted when the user properly exits the company file. If the company file is closed incorrectly, the lock file may not be deleted.
Solution
The 10 lock files must be deleted manually. To delete the lock files, find the folder that contains your MYOB FirstEdge company file. (Use the Finder.) Double-click the folder to display the contents of the folder. Locate the files named lock0001.flk through lock0010.flk and delete them. You should then be able to open the company file.
This error indicates that the company file has been closed incorrectly 10 times. Improper exits -mistakenly turning off your computer while changes are being saved in your company file or experiencing power failures - can damage a company file. We suggest that you use the MYOB FirstEdge Data Optimization Assistant to optimize your file. You can find the MYOB FirstEdge Optimization Assistant in the MYOB FirstEdge folder that was created on your hard disk when you installed MYOB FirstEdge.
If you're able to optimize the file without errors, we recommend that you then use the MYOB FirstEdge Data Verification Utility to be sure your company file is in its "healthiest" form. You can find the Verify Company File command under the MYOB FirstEdge File menu.
