Categories can be assigned to transactions in any of these windows
- Spend Money window
- Receive Money window
- Bank Register window
- Record Service Charges and Interest Earned window
- Record Journal Entry window
- Sales windows (all layouts)
- Historical Sale window
- Purchases windows (all layouts)
- Historical Purchases window
- Transfer Inventory window
- Adjust Inventory window
- Pay Employees window
For reporting purposes, all Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports that you run will note the categories that you have assigned to each transaction. In addition, several new reports are available to help you analyze your categorized transaction data. These reports are listed under the Categories heading in the Accounts view of the Index to Reports:
- Activity Summary (Category) - displays totals for each category within the selected account and date range.
- Activity Detail (Category) - displays every transaction assigned to a category within a specified date range.
- Category Transactions - displays all transactions assigned to selected categories.
- Profit & Loss (Category) - totals only those transactions assigned to a selected category.
- Balance Sheet (Category) - for transactions assigned to a selected category, displays balances in your asset, liability and equity accounts as of the end of a selected period.
- Trial Balance - Category [Summary] - for transactions assigned to a selected category within each account, displays the account balances at the beginning and end of a date range, total debits and credits within the date range, and net activity.
- Trial Balance - Category [Detail] - for transactions assigned to a selected category within each account, displays the beginning account balance, a line for each transaction, the total debits and credits, and the ending balance.
- Category History [Office Link] - for transactions assigned to a selected category, displays all account activity for the current and previous fiscal year (for use with Microsoft Excel).
- Categories List - lists all of your categories, and permits you to edit categories by double-clicking on their names.
